Alabama (Downloadable forms can be viewed with Adobe Reader) Alabama Board of Cosmetology Continuing Education Requirements: The State of Alabama requires 16 hours of Continuing Education for the Cosmetologist Instructor, Esthetician Instructor and the Manicurist Instructor within a license cycle. In order to maintain your Masters License in Cosmetology, Manicuring and Esthetician fields, 16 hours of Continuing Education per renewal cycle is also required. Cosmetologists, Manicurists and Estheticians may complete a Manager License Application to become a Manager provided they have at least one year in a licensed salon under a licensed Manager/Master ( To upgrade from a Manager status to a Master, sixteen (16) Continuing Educational hours must be obtained within a license cycle. As a Master Cosmetologist you may apprentice a student in cosmetology, manicuring and/or esthetics. A Master Manicurist is eligible to apprentice an apprentice student in manicuring and a Master Esthetician is eligible to apprentice an apprentice student in esthetics. North Carolina (Downloadable forms can be viewed with Adobe Reader) North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Examiners Continuing Education Requirements and Penalties ¹ Starting October 1, 2004, all licensees will be required to complete 8 hours of continuing education, in order to renew their license. Cosmetologists may complete up to 24 hours of CE at any time within the three-year licensing cycle. Estheticians and Manicurists must complete 8 hours per year before October 1st. Teacher licenses will fall back on their original professional license to satisfy CE requirements. Penalties Salon Inspections will focus on License Compliance. Individuals practicing with an invalid license could incur a potential $500 Civil Penalty. Make sure that you have fulfilled all Continuing Education Requirements prior to renewal to avoid this penalty.
